Dr Alla Shogenova and Dr Kazbulat Shogenov participated in the Baltic Carbon Forum 2026 (BCF-2026) in Warsaw, representing Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), the TalTech Department of Geology, and SHOGenergy.
The annual forum brought together researchers, industry representatives, policymakers and CCUS specialists from the Baltic Sea region, together with invited experts from the United States and Japan. The programme focused on current developments in CO₂ capture, transport, utilisation and geological storage (CCUS) and on pathways towards industrial-scale deployment of CCUS technologies in the Baltic region.
Keynote on hydrogen technology synergies
Dr Alla Shogenova delivered the keynote presentation:
“Synergy of Hydrogen Technologies”
The presentation addressed the integration of hydrogen production, transport and storage technologies and presented educational material being developed within the Erasmus+ Hy-EDU project.
Hy-EDU develops new educational content on hydrogen transport and storage for universities, students, lecturers and professionals, supporting the preparation of specialists required for the emerging hydrogen economy.
Towards industrial CCUS deployment in the Baltics
The discussions at BCF-2026 addressed technological, geological and regional aspects of CCUS deployment, including geological CO₂ storage, infrastructure development and integration with emerging hydrogen technologies.
For TalTech and SHOGenergy, participation in the forum continues long-term research and project activities aimed at developing regional CCUS value chains, geological CO₂ storage solutions, hydrogen technologies and integrated low-carbon energy systems in the Baltic States.
The Baltic Carbon Forum remains an important regional platform for scientific exchange and cooperation among academia, industry, and policymakers working towards the practical implementation of CCUS in the Baltic Sea region.
The event was organised by Prof. Mayur Pal and the team from Kaunas University of Technology (KTU).
