As part of the global geoscience event EAGE Annual 2025 (June 2–5, Toulouse, France), we joined a fascinating field trip exploring natural hydrogen systems in the Pyrenean foothills — from source rocks to potential reservoirs.

📍⛰️ Near the town of Pau, we studied geological formations, tested a field-based soil hydrogen detection method, and enjoyed stunning Alpine views.

 We’ll apply this detection technique in the upcoming fieldwork in the Baltic region with my new PhD student.

🛰️ While I still believe our remote sensing innovation — SGEN-NMR (space-based subsurface hydrogen detection via NMR) — is far more advanced, field tools remain essential parts of the exploration toolkit.

🪨 Collected H₂ samples, analyzed outcrops, and observed rare mantle rock exposures stretching over 70 km deep.
