Estonian researchers at 83rd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition in Madrid (IFEMA Madrid)

A strong community of geoscience & engineering experts, leaders and next-generation talents gathered at the 83rd EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition in Madrid on 6-9 June.

EAGE (European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers), as one of the largest subsurface professional’s associations in the world, plays an important role in the transition of fossil-fuel targeted activities to renewables and storage-targeted education, research and business.

“Leading Geosciences into a New Era” was a theme for this large worldwide event, where researchers, oil and gas companies, geo- equipment and software providers exchanged their knowledge, presented their advanced and retargeted products and shared their ideas and plans for energy transition era enable their companies to become carbon-neutral by 2050.

Dr Alla Shogenona (senior researcher at TalTech and director of research at SHOGenergy) and Dr Kazbulat Shogenov (scientific researcher at TalTech and founder and CEO at SHOGenergy), EAGE members and took an active part in the conference, where about 4500 people were registered onsite and 800 presentations were made.

One of the most popular themes of the conference was CO2 and H2 Storage, including the Joint EAGE/SPE session “Geological Storage of Hydrogen or CO2” on 7 June, where Dr A. Shogenova made an oral presentation on UHS in Lithuania.

On 8 June in the session “ Natural gas Storage & CO2 and Waste Storage” Dr K. Shogenov talked about UHS’s future outlook for Estonia and Latvia. The next day Dr K. Shogenov was the only chair at the session “CCS and Utilization 2”. Horizon Europe HyStories projects supported the study made by researchers.

Their participation in the EAGE Annual was supported by EAGE-PACE Foundation, the HyStories project and the ENeRG network.

Alla Shogenova is an EAGE member and has participated in the annual EAGE conferences since 1996.

Kazbulat Shogenov has been an EAGE member since 2006 and an EAGE reviewer since 2007. He took part in reviewing extended EAGE abstracts for many years and several times was invited to convene the EAGE technical sessions.
